Maruti Suzuki Ertiga with an ‘ISIS’ number plate spotted in Lucknow; cops on high alert

Numbar Plate ISIS

We have seen many examples of car owners trying to personalize the number plates by styling the end digits as letters to depict some word (mostly in regional languages). The most common examples of such customization are ‘boss (8055), baba (9191), and dada(4141). Now in latest addition to the creative customization, some over enthusiastic mortal from Lucknow has taken the art to another terrorizing level. A Maruti Suzuki Ertiga that bears a number plate bearing the registration number – ‘UP 32 HA 1515’ was spotted in town. Everything was cool with the UP for Uttar Pradesh followed by the sequential number of a district.  But the end four digits of the car is where the owner tried to make it exciting. Finally after a design work to the registration number, the plate reads the same number but illustrating the last digits as ‘ISIS’.

On the first glance, the number ‘1515’ looks like ‘ISIS, a name of the militant group ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria). The Ertiga was spotted at the Mahanagar wireless crossing, near Nishatganj railway overbridge. The onlookers informed the cops over social media and the investigation was carried out. Initially, through the national vehicle registration e-service, VAHAN, the cops found out that the car was owned by a woman named Shabana Bano. Further investigations are on to find out or confirm the name of the owner. Well if this is a joke, then it is a really bad joke, but if the owner is serious about the number plate, then he or she is in a big trouble.

A quick revision on the number plate format put up by the government officials – Indian RTO officials have put down guidelines to explain car buyer and owners the format in which a number plate or a licence plate of a car should be installed. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, registration letters and numbers on the licence plates should be in black on white background for two-wheelers and light motor vehicles. And for commercial vehicles, the numbers and letters are to be painted in black on a yellow background. The number plate should also be in a regular rectangular shape as prescribed and the rule does not permit fancy lettering. If you choose to not obey, then face the music.
