Top 6 fashion tips for the would-be bride on her wedding day

Planning a wedding may be a task but planning your trousseau is another thing altogether. If you, like so many of us, are about to get married you probably know just how much work goes into getting yourself ready for your wedding day. So the good folks at IANS reached out to Ashima Singh to give brides-to-be handy tips on how to plan their looks on their wedding day.(ALSO READ: Kishwer Merchant and Suyyash Rai’s Sangeet & Mehendi ceremony pics: Ex Bigg Boss couple all set for #SuKishKiShaadi! 1. Decide on a vision

While more often than not, the bride has an idea of what she wants to look like on her big day, it isn’t unusual to find the few clueless brides who will go with what they are blindly told. If you aren’t sure of what your look is going to be, spend some time on silhouettes and patterns before deciding what your overall look is going to be, Singh says.

2. Always reach out to someone for a second opinion

We know just how confusing things can get during a wedding and so you may be tempted to not involve someone else in your decision making process. But it is always good to have a close family member or someone whose judgement you trust to give you a second opinion on your choice of outfit for the day.ALSO READ (Yuvraj Singh and Hazel Keech’s Delhi wedding reception outfits are out of a fairy tale dream!)

3. Learn what is good for your body type

So many brides aren’t aware of what works for their body type and what doesn’t. More often than not they will opt for something that is in trend and end up looking ghastly. Singh says it is important to choose your outfit that goes well with your body type. So try on as many styles as possible before you decide on one. Also consider the comfort factor because, remember, you will be spending a lot of time in that outfit… on the stage… standing!

4. Don’t give in to stereotypes

Pastel palettes, light silhouettes and monotone ensembles are in this season but that doesn’t mean you have to go with them. Experiment with colors and looks and don’t just blindly follow a trend because the salesman has told you to. Select the one that makes you stand out. Remember, it is your day and your turn to shine! 5. Don’t hesitate to mix things up

Have you ever considered teaming a sober choli with a jazzy lehnga? Or opting for a dupatta with heavy embroidery? How about a sari gown? Or pairing jackets with your kurti or skirts with crop cholis. You don’t have to give in to traditional bridal wear. Let go a bit and don’t hesitate to mix things up.

6. Opt for minimalism

We understand the temptation of going all out on your wedding day. And we also know that sometimes it has to do with your family insisting that you wear every single piece of jewellery just because it is your wedding. But why would you want to look like a jewellery store on your wedding day? Stand out with minimal make-up and jewellery. Bridal trends today tend to go towards the minimalist side and that is a good thing. Consider it. Chances are you won’t regret it.
