All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi, a three-time Member of Parliament (MP) from the Hyderabad constituency in Lok Sabha, today said one cannot have a uniform civil code in a pluralistic and diverse country like India.
“Would the Sangh Parivar be ready to let go of Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) tax rebates they are getting?” the Lok Sabha member from Hyderabad said.
Fiery Asaduddin Owaisie had also attacked RSS earlier saying that he would not chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. Owaisi said in Latur district, “I don’t chant that slogan (Bharat Mata Ki Jai). What are you going to do, Bhagwat sahab”,
Asaduddin Owaisi emphasised on prohibition of liquor and said: “Why don’t we talk about it and have total prohibition throughout India because it’s also mentioned as Directive Principle.”
He noted there is data which says many women are being harassed or beaten by their drunkard husbands, and that one of the major causes of road accidents is drunken driving.
“India is a pluralistic and diverse country, you cannot have a uniform civil code because this is the strength of India,” he said.
