Maruti Suzuki Reaches A Significant Milestone With Mild-Hybrid Ciaz And Ertiga
Maruti Suzuki has said that Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) accounts for 60-65 percent of volumes for the Ciaz and Ertiga.
India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has sold more than 1 lakh units of vehicles equipped with mild hybrid technology since its launch on the Ciaz and later on the Ertiga MPV.
Maruti calls the mild hybrid technology as Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) and was first featured and launched in the Ciaz sedan in September 2015. Later the company equipped its MPV Ertiga.
The company said that SHVS technology now accounts for 60-65 percent of volumes for the Ciaz and the Ertiga.
So what is this SHVS technology? This is a mild hybrid technology system in which an ISG (integrated starter generator) generates energy while braking and stores the energy in a battery.
This stored energy is reused when the vehicle is in motion and additional torque which immediate acceleration is required. This technology offers better fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
With the government providing benefits via the FAME scheme to encourage theuse of alternative energy, the mild hybrid technology from Maruti Suzuki has helped achieve better sales compared to its competitors.
The Maruti Ciaz with SHVS along with the benefits of the FAME scheme was priced competitively compared to the Honda City. This helped the Ciaz sell better compared to the City in the executive sedan segment.
Maruti offers the SHVS technology in its diesel models of the Ciaz and Ertiga which has only helped the significance where diesel powertrains are being questioned for emissions.
