On Friday, Patidar leader was booked, on direction of Election Commission, by the Sarthana police under sections 36, sections 134 and 72(2) for breach of conditions under which his Jankranti Maharally was granted permission.

Earlier in the day, Hardik Patel had mocked the BJP for not releasing its manifesto, which was recently released. He had posted a tweet in Hindi claiming the BJP was so busy ‘making’ sex CDs that it forgot to formulate and release the manifesto.

Three days ahead of the first phase of voting for Gujarat state elections, five more videos of a Hardik lookalike had gone viral.

These videos have come at a time when Hardik is drawing huge crowds in Saurashtra and Surat and could upset the BJP's apple-cart, which is aiming over 150 seats in the 182-seat Legislative Assembly. Hardik has allied with the Congress, after the latter proposed a formula to give Patidars reservation in education and jobs. The alliance has changed the course of the campaign in what previously considered to be a landslide victory for the BJP.

Young Patidars, including women, have been rallying behind Hardik, who has taken the BJP government in the state head on.

PAAS convener Dinesh Bambhaniya said the videos are a "conspiracy of the BJP" to discredit Hardik. Similar videos were released on YouTube, but were later pulled down. At the time, Hardik had denied he was in the video.

Patel has been campaigning across the State but mostly in Patidar-dominated pockets to create an anti-BJP atmosphere before the voting. Earlier, he had told the press that the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) had accepted the quota formula prepared by the Congress, which intends to give quota to the Patidars after it is voted to power.

The first phase of the Gujarat election is tomorrow and the second phase on December 14. The results will be announced on December 18.
