The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has arranged a tele-counselling facility for its Class X and XII examinees, where students can clarify their queries by consulting experts in different subjects. The service will commence from December 15 for a week till December 21.

“Five telephone numbers will be issued, on which students from across the state can call and ask their queries. Experts will be available to answer their problems from 11am to 2pm. There will be new experts every day,” said BSEB chairman Anand Kishor.

Students can put forth their questions related to syllabus, examination patterns, and how to answer questions. “The BSEB has changed the pattern of question paper for the 2018 exams to include about 50% objective questions. This may be a cause of confusion among the students, and the Board is giving them an opportunity to clear any doubts,” he added. The idea to include objective questions has been made to improve the pass percentage of students, which stood at around 50% in 2017.

The Board has also decided to provide dummy OMR sheets to the examinees for answering the objective questions. “The OMR sheet along with the cover page, will give them a practice of how to fill it in the main exams as not many students, especially those in other districts, are well versed with OMR sheets. Every institution will be provided as per the number of examinees and students can even make Xerox copies for practice,” Kishor said and added that this was the first instance in the country when dummy OMR sheets were provided to students for practice.

This year, around 7.68 lakh students have registered for the Class XII exams while 13.75 lakh students have registered for the Class X Board exams of 2018. This is a significant dip from 2017, when 12.5 lakh students had written the Class XII or Intermediate Exams and 17.2 lakh students had appeared for the Class X or Matriculation exams of the BSEB.

The decrease is being attributed to the poor results in 2017 when around 50% of the examinees failed due to various exam reforms introduced by the BSEB, after it faced controversies of mass-scale cheating and topper scam in the previous years.
