Bengaluru: Sanjay CJ continued to add gloss to his personal CV as the Karnataka swimmer set another national mark on Day Two of the Glenmark 43rd junior National aquatic championship at the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre on Wednesday.
Sanjay built on his first day’s performance as he clocked 8:45.56 seconds to erase Aryan Makhija’s two-year-old mark of 8:50.48s en route to the Group II 800M freestyle gold. His state-mate KS Saif Chandan (9:07.84) took the silver while Rudransh Mishra (9:21.30s) of Maharashtra took the bronze.
Meanwhile among girls, Aalyah Singh of Uttar Pradesh blazed her way to the yellow metal and a national record in the Group II 50M breaststroke. The 13-year-old stopped the clock at 35.28 seconds to rewrite the four-year-old record of 35.42 seconds set by AV Jayveena.
Karnataka continue to lead the medals tally with 16 gold, 10 silver and eight bronze while Maharashtra remain second having notched up seven gold, five silver and seven bronze medals. Madhya Pradesh occupy the third spot with two gold, five silver and two bronze.
