309 v Pakistan, Multan, 2004

It was India's first tour to Pakistan in 15 years. The tension was high across the border, but 'The Nawab of Najafgarh' stayed calm and became the first ever Indian to score a triple-hundred, on the second day of the first Test at Multan. Pakistani, despite having the likes of Shoaib Akthar, Mohammad Sami and Saqlain Mushtaq, couldn't control Sehwag.

219 v West Indies, Indore, 2011

On December 8, 2011, Virender Sehwag recorded the highest ever individual score in ODI cricket, by smashing a 149-ball 219 against West Indies. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar, who scored an unbeaten 200 against South Africa at Gwalior. It was only the second time that a player had scored a double-century in ODIs. Sehwag's knock helped India amass 418/5 in 50 overs, their highest score in ODI cricket till date.

293 v Sri Lanka, Mumbai, 2009

Test cricket to returned to Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium after 36 years. Sri Lanka batted first and posted a good total, but Virender Sehwag made it look so small. Even Muttiah Muralitharan wasn't spared, but he fell to him, agonisingly 7 runs short of what would have seen Sehwag make history by becoming the only player to score three Test match triple-hundreds.

319 v South Africa, Chennai, 2008

Virender Sehwag blasted the South African bowlers to register his highest ever score in cricket in the first Test match at Chennai in 2008. He hit 42 fours and 5 sixes to register a 278-ball triple-hundred, the fastest ever in the history of Test cricket. It was a breath-taking innings, which prompted Micky Arthur, South Africa's coach, to say, "I think that's the best Test-match innings I've ever seen."

122 v Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai, 2014

On May 30, 2014, Virender Sehwag proved that he's a big-match player. Before IPL-7 began, Sehwag wasn't doing all that well even in the domestic circuit. In fact, it was unsure as to if he will be picked up in the auctions. However, after Kings XI Punjab roped him in, he repaid their trust by scoring a magnificent 122 off just 68 balls to put the total out of CSK's reach in the Qualifier 2 match. In the end, the knock proved vital as CSK came close to KXIP's total.

83 v England, Chennai, 2008

England set India a daunting target of 387 in the first Test match. History was on England's side as well because India had never, until then, chased so many to win a Test. Enter Virender Sehwag, who smashed the England bowlers to all corners and raced to 50 off just 32 balls. The visitors, were so taken aback by Sehwag's onslaught that they ran out of ideas. By the end of day 4, the opening batsman had given India a great platform to chase down the target. The importance of his knock was so much so that he was awarded the Man of the Match award despite an unbeaten ton by Sachin Tendulkar in the same innings.

Sehwag remained unbeaten on 125 off 74 balls as India won the match by Duckworth-Lewis method.
