When the first film isn't the debut film!

A debut film is considered very special for actors, and that is why most actors are keen on ensuring that their first film showcases them in an effective way. But there are times when the films that actors sign up for first do not turn out to be their onscreen debut. The latest case is that of Kalidas Jayaram, who, initially signed up for Oru Pakka Kathai, which is being directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan of Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom fame.However, while that film is now in post-production, Amudeshwar's Meen Kuzhambum Mann Paanayum, the second film that Kalidas signed on, will mark his debut, as the makers have announced that it will be released this September.
Here are some contemporary stars whose 'first' film didn't turn out to be their debut'
Lakshmi Menon
When director Prabusolomon announced Kumki, the film that would introduce Sivaji Ganesan's grandson and Prabhu's son Vikram Prabhu, he went in for a new face for the heroine, and roped in Lakshmi Menon, who had acted in a couple of Malayalam films till then. However, the film had a lengthy shoot. Meanwhile, director SR Prabhakaran cast the actress as Sasikumar's pair in Sundarapandian, and the rural entertainer released a few months before Kumki.

Samantha
For Moscowin Kavery, his debut film as a director, cinematographer Ravi Varman signed on Samantha after seeing her pictures from her days as a model. However, the production of the film was delayed, and the films that the actress had signed on after Ravi Varman's film ' Gautham Menon's Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya (in which she had a supporting role in the Tamil version) and Badri Venkatesh's Baana Kaathadi (her first released film as a heroine) ' hit the screens before her 'original' debut.

Arya
After coming across Arya, late cinematographer Jeeva roped him in for his campus romance Ullam Ketkume. It was Jeeva who had given him his screen name (original being Jamshad). However, the film ran into production delays and could release only three years later. In the meantime, Vishnu Vardhan cast Arya as one of the leads in his Arinthum Ariyamalum, which released first, and thanks to the song Theepidikka, Arya became a sensation.

Priya Anand
Priya Anand was originally signed up in 2008 for Pugaippadam, which was directed by Rajesh Lingam, an associate of Selvaraghavan. In that same year, director I Ahmed cast her in Vaamanan, where she was paired opposite Jai. But Pugaippadam could release only in 2010, whereas Vaamanan, which released in 2009, became her official debut.

Simran
The first one who roped her in for a Tamil film was director Vasanth, who cast her opposite Suriya in Nerukku Ner. Soon, a string of filmmakers signed on the actress, resulting in a handful of films of the actress releasing in the same year ' 1997. But the first film to get released and become her debut was the Vijay-Sivaji Ganesan-starrer Once More, directed by SA Chandrasekaran.

GV Prakash
It was announced in 2013 that the composer will be making his debut as a lead actor in Pencil, directed by Mani Nagaraj. However, the film released this May. Meanwhile, GV went on act in Sam Anton's Darling, which released for the Pongal weekend in 2015.

Asin
Like Arya, Asin, too, was supposed to make her debut with Ullam Ketkume. But the delays on that film meant that it was the Jayam Ravi-starrer M Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi, directed by his brother Mohan Raja, which released first to claim the bragging rights as the film to introduce her in Tamil.

Trisha
Trisha was seen in a minor role as Simran's friend in Jodi, but it was Priyadrashan who cast her in her first lead role ' in Lesa Lesa, opposite Shaam. She was then signed on for Jyothikrishna's Enakku 20 Unakku 18, but both these films were delayed during production. And that meant that Ameer's Mounam Pesiyadhey, which she signed on after these two films, became her debut.
