BSY banks on minorities to win assembly elections
B S Yeddyurappa on Friday ended his long association with the BJP. He will formally take over as president of the Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) in Haveri on December 9.
Mysuru: BJP state president and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Monday directed party workers to focus on the welfare of minority communities in their respective segments.
At the district BJP committee meeting held at a hotel here, Yeddyurappa said that Muslims and Christians had been supporting Congress and JD(S). But the situation has changed now, with them leaning towards BJP.
"We should capitalize on this and see that leaders from those communities are brought to the party's fold," he added.
The support of minority communities, backward classes and Dalits will play a key role in the next assembly elections. "We can win majority of seats if our party workers meet and convince them to support BJP," he said.
Ahead of the elections, the party will conduct a survey and elicit public opinion before giving tickets to deserving candidates.
Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa criticized chief minister Siddaramaiah-led government, saying that it has intentionally weakened the anti-corruption institution by restricting the functioning of Lokayukta.
