BELAGAVI: In an effort to comfort people facing hardships exchanging the scrapped notes, PM Narendra Modi in Belagavi on Sunday appealed the public to be patient till December 30 if they want the nation to prosper.
“I'm well aware of the problems and inconveniences confronting people post demonetization of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes but they have to bear them till December 30 in the country's interest.
There is pain, but gain is more, comparatively,“ said Modi speaking at the centenary celebrations of Karnataka Lingayat Education Society (KLES) here. Urging people not to exchange their hard-earned money with lower amount, Modi said the government didn't want to harass the honest but to take on the dishonest. “... it has been 70 years, tell me has the country been looted or not? Has corruption widened its roots or not? Are big stacks of cash lying at houses or not?“ the PM said, strongly defending the demonetization move.
Hitting out at the Congress, which has been critical of the Centre's decision, Modi said: “In 2012, 2013, 2014, scams like coal and 2G occupied newspapers. I'm surprised the Congress is asking why did I scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. When you scrapped 25 paise, did we say anything?
Modi said he's is okay with those throwing notes into the Ganga or burning them but those taking to other ways won't be spared.
