Elections in Karnataka might only be in 2018, but political parties have already begun their ground work. On Monday, BJP state president and former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa hosted a grand lunch for Dalits at his residence in Dollars Colony.

According to sources close to Yeddyurappa, this is considered to be a gesture of gratitude for the hospitality extended to him by Dalits during his recent state-wide tour.

102 Dalit family members were present. They included 43 couples and their family members from 31 districts. The total number of invitees - including BJP district in-charge leaders with their family members - was about 390.

Yeddyurappa told mediapersons that today was "the most memorable day" in his life, and thanked the Dalit families for accepting his invitation and visiting his house.

When the guests arrived, BSY's daughter Padmavathi took charge of the kitchen. His sons, Raghavendra and Vijayendra, supervised other arrangements.

An 18-course lunch was served to Yeddyurappa's guests. On the menu: puri, sagu, rice, rasam, pulav, two types of kosambri, papad, curd, pickle, ricebath, jilebi, payasam, holige, coconut milk and fruit salad.

CONGRESS DOWNPLAYS BSY'S 'FESTIVAL LUNCH'

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said Yeddyurappa's lunch was nothing but political drama.

A few days ago, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Dr G Parameshwara had also mocked Yeddyurappa, asking if he considered it a 'major achievement,' to invite Dalits to his home.
