The surgical ward of the hospital has 40 beds of which 10 were occupied by dogs. What was strikingly shocking is the fact that there was no medical staff or attendant present inside the ward to shoo away the dogs.

"My patient is admitted here in the hospital and we chased away the dogs many times but they keep coming inside the ward. The gate of the ward is open and there is no one to guard the ward and stop the dogs", said Akhilesh Kumar Sharma, attendant of a patient.

Soon after the video of dogs sleeping on the beds inside the ward went viral, Muzaffarpur DM Dharmendra Singh carried out an inspection of the civil hospital. The DM, who found several lapses in the government hospital, said that action would be taken against the erring medical officials for negligence. He has also ordered the salary disbursement of the deputy medical superintendent to be stopped.

"The medical superintendent, deputy superintendent and hospital manager are responsible for smooth functioning of the hospital. It appears that these officials were not carrying out regular monitoring of the hospital. I have also inquired about dogs sleeping in wards and have directed that ward attendant and security personnel must always remain at the ward", said Dharmendra Singh, Muzaffarpur DM.

It is not the first time that an incidence of negligence has been reported from this hospital in Muzaffarpur. Few months back, the medical staff was seen carrying an unidentified body of a woman who had died inside the hospital premises in a garbage cart, which had created a lot of furore.
