Delhi University professor lands in trouble after calling goddess Durga a prostitute

An assistant professor at Dyal Singh College in Delhi University is at the receiving of strong criticism after he called Hindu goddess Durga "sexy prostitute".

An assistant professor of Delhi University is receiving strong criticism over a Facebook post about Hindu goddess Durga.

Kedar Kumar Mandal is an assistant professor at DU's Dyal Singh College. On September 22, he wrote on his Facebook, "Durga is the very much sexy prostitute in the Indian mythology."

The aforementioned controversial Facebook post has hurt religious sentiments of several groups.

Mandal's remark on goddess Durga has gotten him in a massive trouble as student organisations like Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Students' Union of India (NSUI) have demanded the dismissal of the professor from DU administration.

According to a Tweet by a user, a police complaint has also been lodged against the Delhi University professor for calling goddess Durga a 'prostitute'.

The controversial remark came during Navratri or the nine sacred days which mark the most auspicious days of the lunar calendar according to Hinduism.

It is celebrated with fervour and festivity all over north India, and every Hindu community the world over, these nine days are dedicated solely to goddess Durga and her nine avatars.
