AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi blamed political parties for the backward condition of minorities and Dalits.

Continuing his attacks on the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) and other political opponents, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday said that the minorities and Dalits are still backward because they are being exploited only as vote banks.

"We are so backward because we are powerless. Ambedkar often narrated a story that in his childhood, upper caste people used to pour water into his hands from a distance. Today, all these political parties are treating us the same way. We have to wake up now and we can uplift ourselves by electing from our own," said Owaisi, who was addressing a gathering in support of his party's candidate for the byelections in Faizabad.

Intensifying his attack on SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav, Owaisi said that curtains will fall on the father-son 'drama company' in 2017. "The father-son duo made high claims such as 18 percent reservations to minorities," he said.

"I would just like to inform you that there are less than 2 per cent Muslims in the UP police and on the contrary, you will find a Yadav in-charge in most of the police stations of the state," Owaisi said.

"They (SP, BSP, BJP) all are the same and are masters in shedding crocodile tears," he added.

"We do not have any power so they rule the roost. We are fearful and that is why they rule us and suppress us. Let's come together and take the power into our hands and take decisions ourselves," Owaisi said.

AIMIM has nominated Pradeep Kori as its candidate for the byelections on the Bikapur seat of Faizabad.

It is to be mentioned that byelections are to be held on February 13 in Bikapur (Faizabad), Deoband (Saharanpur) and Sadar (Muzaffarnagar) seats of the state. The state goes to polls in 2017.
