MONCTON – Two anti-shale gas protesters involved in the clashes with police last fall have been sentenced to 15 months in jail.
Twenty-one-year-old Germain Junior Breau of Upper Rexton, N.B., and 20-year-old Aaron Francis, of Eskasoni, N.S., were sentenced in Moncton provincial court after being found guilty of weapons related charges in June.
The two were granted credit for time they already served in custody, which means both will be out by the end of August.
The charges were related to a riot that broke out on October 17 near Rexton, N.B. Several police cars were burned and police arrested dozens of protesters and seized several weapons.
Breau and Francis were found guilty of possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose.
Breau was also found guilty of pointing a firearm, but not guilty of assaulting a police officers. Francis was found not guilty of throwing a molotov cocktail.
