The daughter of 7s rugby legend Waisale Serevi, is making her mark with rugby in the United States.

Asinate Serevi, 19, is a sports science student at Central Washington University where rugby has been accepted as a varsity sport for the first time this year.

His father confirmed Asinate’s rugby scholarship and acknowledges the Almighty for his family.

“I thank God for Nate getting a full scholarship for rugby,” Serevi said.

Asinate was outstanding for her CWU Wildcats team in their first home game last Saturday where she led and scored three tries in an 88-0 demolition of the University of Washington. Talks are underway to involve her US women’s sevens rugby programme.

According to the CWU media centre, coach Mel Denham applauded the effort of the team from the first half.

“‘We were able to put together multiple phases, that is something you need to do to score points. It was a real good team effort,” he said.

“Nate Serevi led the Wildcats with three tries on the day, we are looking to set a standard of play and facilities here at Central,” Denham said

The Wildcats’ next game is against the Oregon State University.
