There was a marginal improvement in the pass percentage in the Plus Two public examinations in the district this year, with 90.26 per cent of the students who appeared for the exam clearing it. Last year, the pass percentage in the district was 89.78.
K. Venkataraman of Christ The King Matric Higher Secondary School, Kumbakonam, secured the district first rank scoring 1,185 marks and T. Mohana of Brindhavan Higher Secondary School, Sukkiranpatti, was placed second with a tally of 1,182 marks.
Two students — T.Swathy of St. Isabels Girls Higher Secondary School, Pattukottai, and M. Manikandan of SET Vidhyadevi Matric Higher Secondary School, Alivalam, Thanjavur — stood third with 1,180 marks.
Venkataraman, who wants to study medicine, said he had expected to score well.
Of the 29,598 students who appeared for the exam in the district, 26,715 have passed. The pass percentage among girls was better as usual. Of the 16,538 girls who took the exam from the district 15,460 have cleared it.
Among the 13,160 boys, 11,255 have passed. The district stood at the 21{+s}{+t}position in the State. Two hundred and eleven students of the district have scored centum in Mathematics; 79 in Accountancy, 10 in Chemistry and eight in Business Maths.
The Government Higher Secondary School of Girls, Mariamman Kovil, Government Higher Secondary School, Alakudi, Government Higher Secondary School, Venkaraikottaikadu, and Government Higher Secondary School, Thambikottai Vadakadu, have achieved cent per cent pass among the 88 government schools in the district.
