Dining, Retail, Services Area Near UIC Announces Name Change; University Village Maxwell Street Reflects Location’s Historic Beginnings
(PRWEB) April 08, 2015 -- The mix of dining, retail and service offerings on the south end of the University of Illinois at Chicago campus has been renamed University Village Maxwell Street (http://www.uvmaxwellstreet.com). The new name reflects the location’s historic beginnings dating back to the mid-1800s when the legendary Maxwell Street open air market served as the gateway for immigrants from around the world.
Spared from the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 that started on its doorsteps, the area went on to become the birthplace of the Chicago Blues, Maxwell Street Polish sausages, musician Benny Goodman’s career, and more.
Today, University Village Maxwell Street is a family-friendly destination with dozens of restaurants, taverns, retail outlets, and service shops all located along Halsted and Maxwell Streets, Roosevelt Road and Union Avenue.
Businesses include:
• Restaurants Cold Stone Creamery, Express Grill, Ghareeb Nawaz Express, Hashbrowns, Jamba Juice, Jim’s Original Hot Dog, Joy Yee Noodle, Kohan Japanese Restaurant, La Taberna Tapas, Lalo’s Mexican Restaurant, Lotus Café, Lucky’s Sandwich Co., Moxee American Kitchen, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, PhD Pub Chicago, Popeye’s, Quiznos Sub, Rosati’s Pizza, Subway.
• Retailers 7-Eleven, American Mattress, Powell’s Bookstores, Rapid Transit Cycleshop, Shiekh Shoes, The Bottomline.
• Services ABC Pediatric Dentistry, Great Clips, Howlistic Grooming, Marketplace Vision, Maximum Rehabilitation Services LTD, National University of Health Sciences, Paul Mitchell The School, Sylvan Learning Center, University Cleaners, University Village Montessori School.
Bar Louie, Chapati Indian Grill, Gostosa Hair, and State Farm Insurance are scheduled to open within the next few months, according to Robert Anderson, property coordinator for University Village Maxwell Street.
“It’s a great location with free garage parking available seven days a week, plus easy access to public transportation and major expressways. It attracts a large community of students and others who live or work around UIC, the South Loop, Bridgeport and surrounding areas,” he said.
